This gorgeous beaded gown belonged to Pony Sherrell. She was mostly known for her singing career - in New York, Hollywood and Las Vegas. She also was a songwriter with 2 movies that she co-wrote music and lyrics for: "So this is Paris" and "The Second Greatest Sex". Her first husband was famous singer/songwriter Gene Austen, who wrote "My Blue Heaven". Her second husband was millionaire financier Jess Metcalf, one of the first investors in Hilton Hotels.

In the last photo she is on the far right (in the dress!). Photo taken at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel, Beverly Hills c.1963. The dress was purchased and custom made at the hotel shop.

Modernism Week: Fashion Forward, A Vintage Clothing Retrospective

Posted on 3:27 PM by feeqwfqewef

We are proud to announce our next BIG show! It will be our annual Vintage Fashion Show of the year, peep the flyer & save the date! A fashion show you will not want to miss out on during Modernism week.

Tickets $35

Available Today at: Modernismweek.com

Event Date: Sunday, February 17, 2013
Start Time:  Doors open 4.30 p.m., show begins at 5 p.m.

End Time/Duration:  6 p.m.

Location: Horizon Ballroom, Hilton Hotel, 400 E. Tahquitz Canyon Way, Palm Springs, CA  92262

Event Description:

William Miller and Déjà Vu Vintage Finery presents a fully accessorized, highly stylized fashion show featuring the glamorous trends of yesteryear.  The runway will come alive with glimpses into the post-World War II era of Dior’s “New Look”. From the swinging, mini-skirted and shift-dressed 1960s, to the sit-in, bell-bottomed, independent movement of the 1970s and even the shoulder-padded, belted, over-the-top 1980s fashions, these three decades of fashion will delight. Think of Joan Collins as Alexis Carrington. All of the clothing and accessories is vintage and many of the featured  pieces are well-known American and European designers.

Staged and directed by William Miller, the show features custom lighting and specially selected music to enhance each period of clothing coming down the runway.  Mr. Miller narrates the show with no attention to detail left overlooked.  His commentary is both informative and entertaining.

Author, collector and authority on vintage jewelry, Matt Burkholz, of Route 66 West in Palm Springs, will provide carefully chosen jewelry pieces to complement each fashion period.  The very humorous Mr. Burkholz will add commentary to the show and act as co-emcee of the event.

Enjoy a no-host bar.

Special Instructions or Restrictions:  No children under 13

Holiday Fashion Show: BIRBA Recap November 12'

Posted on 2:58 PM by feeqwfqewef

Tis' the season of fun holiday fashion! What better way is there to showcase our latest vintage fashions perfect for this season? By having a Vintage Holiday Fashion Show! We had our first holiday fashion show of the season two weeks ago held at BIRBA in Palm Springs, Ca.

We thought it was a great way to kick off the holiday spirit with an informal but fun and glamorous holiday fashion show. Birba and their customers enjoyed the fashions and show itself very much. It was all in good spirits, candle lights beaming, a live crowd and a great DJ to set the mood with our vintage fashions.

The following, are images that I was able to capture during the moment through the informal and very fabulous cat walk. We had a great outcome and many thanks to those who helped participate in this fun event! We are looking forward to more winter nights like these.

HaPpY HoLiDaYs from Deja Vu Vintage Finery! Xo!

Barbie Does Palm Springs: Photography of Steven Henke

Posted on 11:21 AM by feeqwfqewef
What happens when a Photographer meets Barbie in Palm Springs? It all comes together to support a wonderful cause, THE CENTER of Palm Springs. Steven Henke started the idea "Barbie Does Palm Springs" from just a fun day out in Palm Springs and brought along his favorite, Malibu Barbie.
The beginning photos of Barbie in Palm Springs were all taken on his blackberry as a fun/new hobby to do. The images turned out so well, they inspired Steven to make his idea into something more. It all started as, what would it look like if Barbie was a tourist in Palm Springs- or during a photo shoot? The following are photos showing us "Barbie Does Palm Springs."
Last month Savage Gallery presented the work of photographer Steven Henke,
"Barbie Does Palm Springs."On the opening night party Saturday, October 20, hosted by Bella Da Ball, Steven donated 100% of the proceeds benefiting the LGBT Community Center of The Desert. For more information visit
www.barbiedoespalmsprings.com

We had the opportunity to showcase our fine vintage clothing at the Savage Gallery as displays for Steven Henke's photography. As Barbie is a very 60's girl we had these wonderful vintage pieces to compliment Barbie's always forward fashion. The photos below is from opening night reception at the Savage Gallery with our Deja Vu Vintage Finery fashion displays.

"Lanz Originals"- Vintage Dresses

Posted on 4:37 PM by feeqwfqewef
Deja Vu Vintage Finery has started on the right foot this new season! We just consigned with us some amazing-and all in great condition, Lanz Original, mid century vintage dresses. We currently have eight Lanz dresses in stock with us today. We have been gaining positive and wonderful responses with our new dresses and have sold many others as well this past month.

A brief background on the Lanz Original dresses, Lanz was started in Salzburg, Austria in 1922, by Josef Lanz and Fritz Mahler. Before fashion, Lanz specialized in ski wear and supplied traditional folkwear costumes for Austrians attending the Salzburg music Festival (think The Sound of Music.) They noted their costumes were also bought by tourists (Americans) traveling to Austria in the 1920s and early 1930s. During the mid 30's Lanz relocated to New York, leaving the company there in the hands of other family members. He than opened a new branch of the business in 1936. Lanz began to expand their business by creating fashions that were inspired by traditional Austrian folk-wear, but followed the lines of current fashions.

Lanz of California was established in the 1940s, and they began to manufacture Austrian-inspired clothing in the US. By the early 1950s, the Lanz of California label was owned by Nornie and Werner Scharff, and the European and American companies were totally independent of one another. By 1978, there were two Lanz companies in the US, Lanz Originals, which was still making dresses, and Lanz of Salzburg, a sleepwear maker. Around 2001, Lanz Originals stopped production.

Since Lanz has stopped production making dresses, Deja Vu Vintage finery has the following in stock.
please call the store for more detailed information about this post.

Fun Fact: Lanz clothing was originally based on traditional Austrian trachten, and the clothes were never intended to be “fashion-forward” in the first 30 years of the company.
